Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, revealed that festivals or events were always organized during the Songkran Festival and many people went back to their hometown in other provinces or had a leisure travel during this year Songkran Festival which is a long national holidays from April 10 to 15, 2021. In order to prevent fire incidents and stay safe during the Songkran Festival, the BMA has implemented fire safety and prevention measures for the 2021 Songkran Festival. For private houses, the public are requested to check all cables, plugs and sockets, and home electric appliances regularly to ensure that they are in good condition. If something is damaged, it must be fixed or changed immediately. Electric appliances must be switched off and unplugged every time when not in use. Automatic circuit breaker must be installed to prevent leakage current. A fire that burn candles and incense to worship Buddha and gods must be safely put out before sleep/going to bed or leaving the house. After finished cooking, the LP Gas cylinder valve must always be closed. All matches and lighters must be kept out of the reach of children. People are warned not to smoke in bed or make sure cigarette butt is fully extinguished before disposing. Each home must have fire prevention equipment and fire extinguishers and regularly check whether they are in good condition and ready to use.

As for buildings, entertainment places, and amusement places, the lighting of fireworks and releasing of the flying lanterns, lighting lanterns, and smoke lanterns are prohibited. Violators shall be liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three year or to a fine not exceeding sixty thousand (60,000) Baht or to both. All fire protection systems and appliances must be checked and maintained in good order at all times and be readily available for immediate use. Signs showing fire escape routes must be clearly installed. Refrain from organizing any activities that can cause fires such as lighting of fireworks and the use or releasing of helium-filled balloons. This includes water splashing as any small splash can cause water to get into electrical outlets or electric appliances and cause a short circuit. The people are encouraged to observe fire escape routes and fire doors or emergency exits in order to prepare for fire emergency. Owners of the buildings and entertainment places are requested to strictly comply with advice and suggestions of the BMA officers to prepare for and prevent against fire incidents in business establishments.
