Dengue hemorrhagic fever is caused by the dengue virus and mosquito is a prominent carrier of the virus. It can be found in all age groups. The group at risk of getting sick with dengue hemorrhagic fever is people between the ages of 5-14 years.
During the rainy season, the spread of dengue hemorrhagic fever has usually been detected and increased. In 2021, dengue hemorrhagic fever has a tendency to spread in Bangkok widely. From January to May 2021, there were 2,701 cases and 2 deaths.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched campaigns to educate children, youth and the general public on the prevention of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The people are advised to keep their houses and surrounding areas clean and tidy; dispose all waste and throw out any items that hold water to get rid of mosquitoes breeding sources; keep the house bright and clear without any dark areas which are the hiding place of adult mosquitoes; and, most importantly, be careful not to be bitten by mosquitoes. Moreover, the mosquito fogging has been conducting and abate sand were added to eliminate mosquito larvae in various water sources.
We can all prevent dengue hemorrhagic fever.
1. Prevent mosquitoes breeding by destroying Aedes larvae breeding sources and hiding places for mosquitoes.
2. Prevent mosquito bites such as closing the mesh-screen-fitted doors and windows tightly, sleeping in mosquito nets, or applying mosquito repellent.
Various symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of appetite and abdominal pain could be similar to many diseases including influenza, dengue hemorrhagic fever and COVID-19. If taking medicine to reduce fever for 1-2 days and the symptoms still do not improve, please see the doctor at the BMA public health center or the nearest hospital for urgent medical attention and treatment.
