the Governor of Bangkok
On 20th October 2020 at 10.00 hrs., H.E. Mrs. Kjersti Rødsmoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Thailand, together with Mr. Tor Haug, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, and Miss Paranee Jansawake, Economic Affairs Officer, paid a courtesy call on Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall.
Ambassador expressed gratitude to the Governor of Bangkok and BMA’s executives for the warm welcome and was honored to meet the Governor of Bangkok. She mentioned that Bangkok is a significant city to Norwegian people because several Norwegians come to Bangkok for traveling and doing business, and Bangkok is an important business partner of the Kingdom of Norway. The Ambassador also congratulated Governor of Bangkok for the excellent management, control, and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, the Ambassador asked about the BMA’s future policy on tourism, which she hopes that Norwegian tourists will visit Thailand after the COVID-19 outbreak situation subsided. Also, she would like to learn more about the BMA’s urban management in the future in order that the Embassy can inform the Norwegian people who are interested in traveling or doing business as an acknowledgment. The Governor of Bangkok responded that the BMA places great importance on urban management, particularly on waste management and traffic management, which are the priority issues. In terms of tourism, the BMA predicts that there will be more tourists after the re-opening of the country because Thailand has excellent world-class management in preventive and control measures against the spread of COVID-19. It enables the BMA to gain trust and confidence amongst international tourists. Both the Ambassador and the Governor of Bangkok discussed on the issue of differences in waste management of the two countries. In the end, the Ambassador expressed appreciation on the BMA’s policy on prohibiting the use of plastic bags and wished that Norwegian tourists would travel to Bangkok again in the near future.
