Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, talked about the accident that the arm of the lifting crane fell down at Soi Srinagarindra 1 and its scrap material injured a motorcycle rider on April 13, 2021. Due to this accident, the BMA Public Works Department was assigned to issue an urgent letter to Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand requesting the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand to halt the construction of the MRT Yellow Line Project, Lat Phrao – Samrong Section, for 7 days as from the date of the receipt of the letter (April 14, 2021). The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand was also asked to duly solve all problems and properly fix all errors; to strictly comply with safety measures at the construction site; to remedy the injured person and damaged property caused by this accident immediately; and to notify the result of implementations to the Public Works Department.

The crane fall site is the construction area of the MRT Yellow Line Project, Lat Phrao – Samrong Section, under the supervision and responsibility of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), the Ministry of Transport. According to the initial clarification of the facts and basic inspection, it found that the concessionaire of the project had brought in and installed an equipment for lifting and installing the emergency walkway between the guideway beams since before Songkran festival but the installation had not yet finished. Therefore, the operation was continuing so that it could finish as planned. However, during the installation, a lifting sling was abruptly torn and flicked with forces causing the arm of the lifting crane to fall down on the outbound direction of Srinagarindra road. The fallen material bounced and injured a motorcycle rider who is now hospitalized at Lat Phrao Hospital and the motorcycle was also damaged. The legal proceedings following this accident will be carried out by the police officer from Hua Mak Police Station and the concessionaire will be responsible for all the damages. In this regard, none of the government properties has been destroyed or damaged.
