Due to the sharing of information via online media regarding the spread of COVID-19 at restaurants in Yaowarat area, Samphanthawong district, with many people being infected, Mr. Khachit Chatchawanit, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), revealed that the BMA had already followed up the situation and inquired about all details and facts on this matter. In fact, it was true that people were found to be infected with COVID-19, but they were found only in some restaurants, not the whole area. Regarding the Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant whose name was mentioned in the online media news, it is now closed for renovation which is done regularly and annually during Songkran (Thai New Year). There was no COVID-19 infection reported in this restaurant. Up to now, Tang Jai Yoo Restaurant has always strictly complied with preventive and control measures prescribed. The restaurant was cleaned using disinfectant; moreover, all employees were urged to take care of their personal hygiene and maintain the cleanliness of body and clothes. Body temperature check point and handwashing station with alcohol were provided for customers and service users. Social distancing of dining tables and chairs was maintained according to regulations and criteria prescribed by government agency.
Regarding the case of the bag shop at Ratchawong Road where the COVID-19 infections were reported, the BMA public health center had visited the area to conduct disease investigation and ordered the temporary closure of the shop for cleaning and disinfection based on disease prevention measures. The infected persons have already been hospitalized and those who were tested negative are suggested to take care of their health and to self-quarantine for 14 days.
Deputy Permanent Secretary for the BMA also added that in case of spraying Yaowarat Road with disinfectants, the BMA did not allow the spraying of disinfectant as in the photo publicized on online media. Nevertheless, the BMA had urged Samphanthawong District Office to create correct understanding among business operators on proper cleaning and disinfection practices. The use of 70% alcohol and bleach to wipe and clean all surfaces and high-touch areas as suggested by the Ministry of Public Health is an effective way for cleaning and it is also safe for cleaners. Furthermore, the Samphanthawong District Office was strongly advised to publicize information on how to take care of personal hygiene and encourage the strict practice of personal protection measures (D-M-H-T-T-A) among business operators and the general public.
