Mrs. Silapasuai Rawisaengsun, Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), revealed the progress of transportation services for COVID-19 patients implemented by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Emergency Medical Service Center (Erawan Center) that the BMA by the Erawan Center had been working nonstop in transporting COVID-19 patients to hospitals for treatment with the aim to reduce the number of patients who forced to stay in isolation at home due to shortage of beds. On April 27, 2021, the Erawan Center joined forces with its network partners comprising 50 district offices, the Royal Thai Army, and Ruamkatanyu Foundation in transporting and admitting 133 COVID-19 patients, who are waiting for hospital beds, into hospital’s healthcare and treatment system. At present in the area of Bangkok Metropolis, no patient is left behind or in the waiting list. From now on, the Erawan Center will be able to transport and admit patients to hospital on a day to day basis or in real-time manner. After receiving phone calls requesting for transportation service to hospital, if the Erawan Center can call back to the patients and collect additional information and conduct basic screening before noon; in the afternoon, the Erawan Center can send vehicles to pick the patients up and send them either to Bang Khun Thian Geriatric Hospital or Sirindhorn Hospital. At the hospital, they will be screened and examined to determine the degree of infection and be put in color-coded categories: green, yellow, or red cases. After that they will be admitted to the hospital for treatment. Nevertheless, transporting patients to hospital may face some difficulties such as the officers of Erawan Center cannot reach the patients by phone or the patients refuse to have bed at the designated hospital and want to wait for bed in the preferred hospital. In this case, the Erawan Center will contact the patients again for more information to provide transportation service on the next day.
The BMA by the Erawan Center would like to express its sincere thanks and appreciation to all network partners who had been working and supporting resources in transporting patients to hospital for treatment. Especially, officers of all 50 district offices who commit themselves to the support of operation. The Erawan Center is also ready to provide assistance to the yellow or red COVID-19 cases who need to be hospitalized in hospitals outside the BMA affiliation or private hospitals and are still waiting for bed. Please call 1669 hotline of the Erawan Center to request for sending and admitting patients into hospital for further treatment.
