Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, chaired the Executive Meeting of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), No. 6/2021.
At the meeting, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Livestock Office reported the situation of an outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease: LSD among cattle and buffaloes. The disease was first identified in Roi Et province and later also found in 41 provinces. However, as of June 2, 2021, no Lumpy Skin Disease cases have been reported in the area of Bangkok Metropolis.
In this regard, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Livestock Office reported measures for the surveillance of Lumpy Skin Disease of the Department of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. Firstly, province within the 50 kilometer radius of the outbreak area shall be announced as the animal infectious disease outbreak area of Lumpy Skin Disease among cattle and buffaloes. Secondly, campaigns for prevention and eradication of Lumpy Skin Disease shall be kicked-off. On May 31, 2021, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Livestock Office had send a rapid response team to publicize among the farmers the information on symptoms and the general spread of Lumpy Skin Disease, to spray disinfectant and insecticide, and to clean cowsheds to destroy the sources of insects that are carriers of disease. Thirdly, information to raise awareness among the public shall be circulated in order to speed up the detection of disease. Fourthly, movement of cattle and buffaloes must be strictly controlled and the cattle and buffaloes are allowed to be transported to the slaughterhouse in the area only. Fifthly, the Department of Livestock Development received 60,000 doses of LSD vaccines on May 30, 2021 to inoculate cows and buffaloes owned by farmers and breeders in the outbreak areas first and then the vaccines will be distributed to the surrounding areas to control the spread of disease.
In this regard, the Governor of Bangkok has been concerned about farmers and breeders in the area of Bangkok Metropolis. Therefore, he urged all Directors of 50 District Offices, especially the outer districts, to circulate information among farmers and breeders on the spread of Lumpy Skin Disease and observation of symptoms or abnormalities of cattle and buffaloes. If pustules are found on the skin of the cattle and buffaloes as well as within nasal and oral cavity, please immediately report to all 14 Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Livestock Offices.
