Mr. Sakchai Boonma, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, presided over the activity to plant 1,500 mangrove sprouts in 500 cement pipes at Bang Khun Thian Coast in Bang Khun Thian District. The South Bangkok Zone of the Bangkok Metropolitan Adminitration (BMA), which includes Sathon District, Khlong Toei District, Bang Kho Laem District, Pathum Wan District, Bang Rak District, Yan Nawa District, Vadhana District, Bang Na District, Phra Khanong District, and Suan Luang District, organized an activity to plant mangrove sprouts in cement pipes. Cement pipes were put in the designated plots of land, then mud and soil were added into the cement pipes, and mangrove sprouts were planted in the cement pipes. This method can nurture the growing of mangrove sprouts to be strong and safe from sea waves. It can also increase the number of mangrove trees, increase mangrove forest areas, and prevent coastal erosion of Bang Khun Thian coast. This is the effort to collectively restore mangrove forest to original state with the natural balance in an ecosystem. It will be food source for animals living in nature, nursery ground for embryos of various types of animals, and significant learning and education source on ecological nature of Bangkok.
