Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, chaired the Executive Meeting of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), No. 10/2021. At the meeting, the BMA Health Department and Medical Service Department reported situation of COVID-19 outbreak in the area of Bangkok Metropolis after 78 COVID-19 clusters have been detected in construction worker camps, business establishments, markets, communities, and nursing homes.
In this regard, the BMA has already inspected, advised, and urged 482 out of 486 market business operators in the area of Bangkok Metropolis to comply with surveillance, prevention, and control measures for COVID-19 pandemic (physical aspect). The remaining 4 markets are located in Bang Kapi District. These 4 markets have been ordered to temporarily close since May 22, 2021, so far no dates have been set for when it will reopen. For markets that have been closed and have not yet been inspected and advised, the Health Department and relevant organizations will conduct inspection once they are opened for service.
With regard to construction worker camps, according to the information dated June 16, 2021, there are 615 construction sites with 575 construction worker camps in Bangkok area. Workers living in construction worker camps comprise 34,148 Thais and 46,915 foreigners, totaling 81,063 people. These premises have already been managed in accordance with COVID-19 surveillance, prevention, and control measures for construction worker camps in Bangkok Metropolitan area.
