Mrs. Wantanee Wattana, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) visited and observed health screening activity for the helpless persons, participated by government organizations and agencies and military, at the area near the Shrine of Phra Mae Thorani (Goddess of the Earth) twisting her hair (in Thai, Lan Phra Mae Thorani Beep Muai Phom), Ratchadamnoen Road, Phra Nakhon District.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary said that Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, was concerned about every group and sector of people living in Bangkok. According to several site visits made by the Governor of Bangkok, it was found that homeless and helpless persons were scattered in various areas especially around the Royal Plaza (Sanam Luang), the historical site and significant landmark of Bangkok. This resulted in lack of orderliness in this area. In addition, there were concerns about health problems of these homeless and helpless persons as they might not have access to medical service or healthcare service. Therefore, the Governor of Bangkok assigned various relevant organizations such as the BMA Health Department and Phra Nakhon District Office to coordinate with military and Metropolitan Police Bureau to join forces in taking care of these helpless persons. The BMA would provide the right and suitable assistance for them, if it was the problem that the BMA could provide assistance. Initially, the BMA had made records of health history, arranged mobile medical unit to provide health check and perform chest x-ray service, and distributed primary care drugs, surgical face masks, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers. However, in case of problems that the BMA could not provide solutions, it would coordinate with related organizations to provide assistance.
