The Sunflower Field in Wachirabenchathat Park (Rot Fai Park), Chatuchak District: Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, officially opened the Bangkok Flora Festival which will be held from 1 to 20 December 2020 under the theme of “the Miracle of Learning & Smiling Sunflower”. The objectives of the event are to promote the new type of tourism and to be the New Year present for the people of Bangkok.
The Sunflower Field in Wachirabenchatat Park consists of more than 30,000 sunflower plants in the areas of 4 rais (6,400 square meters). Vincent’s Choice Brown-Centered Sunflower was chosen to grow in this field because of its special feature of the pollen-free blossom; therefore, those who have pollen allergy can enjoy the sunflowers. The field is opened to the public from 1 to 20 December 2020. Other than being an interesting tourist attraction, it is also a learning space on “Sunflower Plants” for youths and those who are interested in sunflowers.
The Governor of Bangkok added that the BMA continuously gives priorities to conservation and development of environment as it realized that living in the good and healthy environment will enhance better mental and physical health and lead to the readiness for all aspects of capacity development. Therefore, the BMA has policy to improve and increase green area in many ways. The development of space within the public park to be a seasonal flower garden is one of the urban landscape improvement efforts to make the city shady, beautiful, and livable.
Moreover, the BMA will create more flower gardens for the public to visit circulating in various public parks. Madagascar Periwinkle Field in Wanaphirom Romklao Park, Lat Krabang District, will be opened for the public from 12 to 31 January 2021. Yellow Cosmos Field in Mahakan Fort Public Park, Phra Nakhon District, will be opened for the public from 10 to 20 April 2021. Marigold, Yellow Cosmos, and Margaret Fields in Chatuchak Public Park, Chatuchak District, will be opened for the public from June to July 2021. Lastly, Celosia, Cockscomb, and Madagascar Periwinkle Field in Lumpini Public Park, Pathum Wan District, will be opened for the public from September to October 2021.
